Alan Mattli’s review published on Letterboxd:
It's a little rambly, a little aimless, and a little oversentimental, but I'm a sucker for engagingly told filmic memoir, especially when it's as invested in the nitty-gritty detail of everyday life as Linklater's particular brand of it. Watching him work to keep alive these obviously cherished memories of a bygone era, of growing up in a place without a past, can feel self-involved at times, sure – but I definitely understand the impulse, and it yields some undeniably moving moments.
