Rewatching this really is a must because it makes you pay attention to how all of the movie's thematic, narrative, and emotional arenas – the unfaced grief, the unprocessed betrayal, the contradictory memories, the different approaches to relationships, the potentially allegorical stories, the way the theatre both amplifies and feeds off those feelings – are in constant, mostly entirely implicit conversation with each other. What lies under that calm, uneventful surface is so rich, so perceptive, and so rewarding. I think this film will have me return to it again and again in the future.
