L'immensità

L'immensità ★★★

A handsome European social drama that profits from Crialese's light touch and languid approach to storytelling (I can't help but compare his handling of queer issues favourably to Lukas Dhont's sledgehammer method). Ultimately, I wish he would have had the courage of his convictions a bit more, for even though the movie suggests narrative and emotional gaps, it doesn't quite leave its audience with enough questions to chew on. Still, this kind of film is a festival staple, which means there are plenty of middling versions of it, so it's nice to see Crialese doing it competently.
