Wrath of Man

Wrath of Man ★★

Technically this is Guy Ritchie remaking a French film, but it really feels like Ritchie adapting Norman Mailer. I often enjoy Ritchie, but this is one of his more pretentious, overly self-serious efforts (title should’ve been a giveaway). Everyone is a hyper-masculine character who speaks in pretentious, pseudo-philosophical pontifications. Statham’s character is so reserved and aloof that he barely has any dialogue, thus robbing him of his best tool as an actor: his charm and charisma. Elegant camerawork and a great cello score can’t keep this from feeling like a bit of a slog.
