“OSCAR BAIT,” I’ve heard many cry, having only seen the trailers, still not over Emma Stone’s 2016 Best Actress win. Feels safe, tries nothing new, treads familiar waters; it’s what everyone’s saying about the film. While they partly ring true, may I highlight some of the good things?
• Emma Stone and Andrea Riseborough shared some truly beautiful scenes
• the score - sappy and Hollywood - elevated many scenes
• makeup and costumes were great for the era it was capturing
• the last act was fun!
Shameless plug: keep an eye out for Margot Robbie’s I, Tonya, an exciting and refreshing entry to the sports biopic genre!
