Lady Bird doesn't break new grounds but it's Greta's execution that makes it one of the great modern coming-of-age films.
Her brand of humour settles for sentimentality over quirkiness, a heavily-used ingredient in its genre. Yes, Lady Bird is quite the eccentric character (Saoirse is AMAZING in the role) but she deals with problems and situations rooted in reality, brilliantly penned by Greta. There are many wonderful things to take from this film, and a number of incredibly moving scenes (Lady Bird x Danny, Lady Bird x mother - really almost everything).
It's more wholesome than it is funny; while the audience was roaring with laughter, you could feel everyone's heart glowing with warmth. It was a great nostalgia trip for my friends and I, and I hope it'll help younger audiences reflect on where they currently are in life.
Just when you thought you couldn't love Greta more!
