Alex Spindler’s review published on Letterboxd:
I’m told 2001: A Space Odyssey gets better on repeat viewings. I really hope that’s the case, because I’ve come away feeling pretty underwhelmed. Visually, for a movie more than half a century old, it really is nothing short of spectacular. There were moments when I genuinely couldn’t believe how incredible it looked. Disappointingly though, I did find too much of it to be boring. Above all else when watching a movie, I want to be entertained, and I just wasn’t for long spells. There’s a lot to unpack on first viewing, so I will watch it again, but I can’t say I’m too psyched about doing so any time soon. Lots of gratitude for 2001 for so strongly influencing so many sci-fi movies that I love though.
