Sorcerer ★★★★

Taut structuring was never Friedkin’s strength. I don’t know whether or not the extended prologue is longer than the one Wages of Fear, but it feels like it. As maverick as he may have thought himself to be, Friedkin can’t escape distinct Hollywood instincts - over-explanation, blunt foreshadowing, and trading methodical pacing for set pieces.

Those set pieces, though, are fucking tremendous.
