Y Tu Mama Tambien drains me physically and emotionally as well as our love triangle. Love and friendship are put to the test. Live your life the way you want to, because in the end you want to look back on your life and experiences and know that you felt and experienced all that you could. Comfortably casual with itself nothing feels out of place, events unfold so naturally I swear I was there. A seductively alluring piece of early 2000’s cinema by Cuaron and Lubezki. Lubezki’s work here feels so restrained, like Deakins. His films continually get more dazzling, but I love when the main focus is to accompany the story as evident in Y Tu Mama Tambien. A weird level of cool and fun, like a Mexican Dazed and Confused, but with a handful more somber moments and a little smarter. All and all its super relatable and down to earth. Sharply made and attractively distinguished it’s a step above all other road movies.
