    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Ein optisches Fest. Und storymäßig 2018 angemessen.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

I actually liked this more the second time. There is still no sense to Rowling's magic laws except what the plot demands, but the characters and details are really quite lovely.

  • Bohemian Rhapsody

    Bohemian Rhapsody

Eine schwache Aneinanderreihung verfilmter Anekdoten, zurechtgebogen auf eine schematische Dramaturgie. Bemerkenswert ist nur die Schlusssequenz, das epische Re-Enactment eines legendären Auftritts.

It's amazing how this manages to be both very convoluted and extremely stupid.

    Planet Earth II

A technical marvel. Not very excited about the storytelling.

    Star Wars: The Last Jedi

This movie is like a giant Bohemian Rhapsody type song. It should not be working, because there is so much in it, parts of it don't seem to make sense, and it does veer into the silly or the gratuitous, but it lands in an emotional heft which feels surprisingly satisfying. And just like that song it somehow works as a perfect piece of glorious pop, besting - in my opinion - many movies with higher or more serious ambitions.
