Sam’s review published on Letterboxd:
Easily Bale's best performance as Bruce Wayne / Batman. His intimidation and force feel so effortless here (plus the costume here is so MUCH better than his later armour). Nolan's Gotham was perfected here as its own merky character struggling for hope amongst the sea of despair and pure grit. This is the most "Batman" feeling film out of the trilogy but still manages to walk the line of grounded reality damn well.
Batman Begins is cinematography bliss complimented by Hans Zimmer's now iconic themes. A smart character study set against themes of retribution, control and fear. Nolan adds a wonderful chapter to the Batman mythos, respecting what came before (especially Miller's Year One).
I enjoy this film so much every time I rewatch it. What a masterful way to retrofit Batman.
