    Not really sure why Argento believes this is his worst film. I do kind of have two major problems with it, one thematic problem and one more political, although they both connect. The research lab at the centre of the film is developing testing for a 'crime gene', and it is understood that when testing for this gene is successful, it will become common practice to abort anyone with the gene.     beautiful to watch but i can't say that i extracted anything too meaningful from it. Yang's subjects are all too familiar, he seems drawn to subtle dramas, and the fertile ground of his work is located in the ordinary. when a revelation in the story occurs, or when a beautiful composition is framed, it's only made that much more remarkable by the mundanity that surrounds it.

    as others have said, a simple breakup allegory does not necessitate a 2.5 hour film. the most engaging thread of the entire film for me was probably those two blokes fighting over the commune as the subject for their thesis. i hated it whenever someone chose the same subject as me, so i could relate. this goes nowhere of course, and was also probably an unnecessary subplot in a film far too overwrought and meandering for such a facile subject.…
