Scavenger Hunt #36-March 2018
Task #30 Watch a movie involving Virtual reality (also Ready Player One if you plan on seeing it).
PREREQUISITES to viewing this movie: Watch The Shining to enjoy an extended scene where the characters are trapped in the movie.
What's up with all the '80s music? Is it because the creator of Oasis (the virtual reality world) was a kid during the '80s, playing Atari and stuff? I guess? It made no sense when I heard the '80s music the first time I saw the trailer. The year is supposed to be 2045!!
The first act is pretty solid and inspiring.
The second act dips a little bit and never quite recovers. Having studied screenwriting, I saw some formulaic things a mile away. In order to accomplish his goal, Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) must accomplish three tasks (non-specific for spoiler purposes). However, it can't be TOO easy, so some obstacles are thrown in for dramatic effect. There is the "LOVE" angle too. They sort of make fun of themselves for doing this. It works. In fact, I liked the character of Samantha Evelyn Cook(e) (Olivia Cooke, look she has the same last name as her character) more than the main guy, although "Wade" was likable as well.
The third act, yay, but it seems like it would have been great if as much thought had been put into the second and third acts as the first. Overall, not bad. Kinda fun. No vegan alerts. But more '80s music until the end.
BTW, "Dreaming" would have been a cooler Blondie song to use more than "One Way or Another", exploring the first act's concept of you can be anyone you want to be and do anything in the Oasis.
2nd BTW: How many "nerds" (and I mean this in the nicest way possible) will make their password B055man69? Yeah, I think people will be too smart to make the "bad guy's" password their own.
BTW, doing this 30th task marks the completion of my first Scavenger Hunt!!!
