my introduction to hong’s overwhelmingly humdrum metafiction stories and i loved it! he used the simplest concept β€” second chances β€” to re-examine the gravity of our conversations. enjoyed the domesticity of all the scenes, enjoyed the clumsy flirting of the two leads, enjoyed all the minute details that would chart the course for their ending; all in all, a very easy, sincere movie to consume!

i understand what viola davis was saying about how this perpetuates the 'white saviour' concept and honestly, yes, i can see what she means. only when a white woman helped black maids and gave them a platform to speak were they able to fight back against the systemic racism in southern society? something about that doesn't sit right with me.
