my introduction to hong’s overwhelmingly humdrum metafiction stories and i loved it! he used the simplest concept — second chances — to re-examine the gravity of our conversations. enjoyed the domesticity of all the scenes, enjoyed the clumsy flirting of the two leads, enjoyed all the minute details that would chart the course for their ending; all in all, a very easy, sincere movie to consume!
as an asian who's struggled with grief, loss, and the notion of afterlife, i reallyyyyyyy wanted to enjoy "after yang" more than i honestly did. maybe i set my expectations too high after reading all of the letterboxd reviews but i did not get much out of this. since i'm so biased, i'm hoping that i may revisit this movie at a later date and have it finally click. i'm hoping that maybe it's not the movie that's the issue,…
