A damn masterpiece of a film about a subject material I usually avoid like the plague. Street gangs and tough guys are as far from me as you’ll find. It resonates with all the individuals who made me feel uncomfortable about myself growing up. I never wanted to be them, their only purpose was to create unease for others.
Which is kinda the whole point of this film. How do you portray this without necessarily pulling the curtain right back to expose the ugly underneath? This film portrays a style and suave with abandon to light up a dreary tale of how people see nothing but the best in others, how they are blinded by their own lens of the world and what is important to them.
Fantastic performances all round but this may go down as one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen with its mostly monochrome palette and use of shadow. A must watch.
