• Fall

    Fall

    ★★★½

There were three other films playing at the Drive-in when I saw Fall with my family.

Those films were Smile, Bodies Bodies Bodies and Orphan: First Kill.

Wow its just been an incredible year for the horror genre (and yes this is horror I'm afraid of heights and dumb decisions).

  • Smile

    Smile

    ★★★

Leads in horror movies are ridiculously bad at explaining themselves to people, especially when they have almost 100% verifiable proof.

Like why would you open with "I know I look crazy but... *quivers* my eyes have been opened and [near hysterical] I'm cursed!"

ANYWAYS aside from every horror cliche in the book, Smile remained loads of fun, with interesting direction, chilling sound design and a highly compelling lead performance.

There are some undeniably effective scares, and the third act holds some true horror moments.

Yeahh there are jumpscares but they're effective. If you aren't into that just skip this though... I guess.

  • Avatar

    Avatar

    ★★★½

I folded and watched in IMAX 3D...
And it was good, it was visually incredible.

That being said, thematically this is probably to colonialism what Men is to sexism...

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

The true killer was the friends we made along the way!

  • A Cure for Wellness

    A Cure for Wellness

    ★★★½

Mia Goth needs to stay away from the elderly!

An extremely odd, yet endearingly imperfect film, which could either be described as sprawling or overlong. I'm somewhere in the middle.

  • Bodies Bodies Bodies

    Bodies Bodies Bodies

    ★★★★

'How in the world could this be considered divisive???' I ask, knowing perfectly the eye-rolls I'd get if I'd taken my parents to see this.

ANWYAYS! I quite enjoyed watching this (in the kids cinema where they put all the A24 horror movies apparently??), lounging on the comfy little couches they have in there, and giggling along knowing damn well I'd be making the same stupid-ass decisions if I was in such a conundrum.

  • Speak No Evil

    Speak No Evil

    ★★★

An unsettling parable; the anti good samaritan.

Unfortunately slightly too slow, but effectively chilling nonetheless.

    47 Meters Down: Uncaged

I gasped louder at the film's 45% Rotten Tomatoes score than a single scare in the movie.

    How to Train Your Dragon

    ★★★★★

Watching this movie gave me an existential crisis. Because when I die, which I'm assuming (probably correctly) will happen at some point, I'll never be able to watch this again????

    Like never again???

So I've resolved myself to watching this as much as I can whilst I still can!

I think we all need a little bit of Marcel right about now....

    What a heartwarming little movie!
