Obviously once a movie becomes as popular and awarded as La La Land everyone begins to search for every possible fault and controversy, but overall it is simply an amazing film.
The film is about hope, dreams, and nostalgia, all themes that seem relevant and needed today. The film opens with a number that is somewhat misleading for the rest of the film. What starts as the typical musical becomes much more than that. The songs for the most part sound natural, not over mixed, the dancing has some faults which add to the reality of the performance. References to past classics are numerous and probably still haven't all been identified. The cinematography, set design, costumes and really the production as a whole is stunning to look at. Both Stone and Gosling do an amazing job at bring these characters and their stories to life. The message being dreams really can come true, just maybe not exactly like we imagined.
