The New Mutants

The New Mutants ★★

Almost every moment with Anya Taylor-Joy is super fun other than Magik's blatant racism early on. It's not remotely played as being okay in the movie but still an odd choice.

I had really hoped that this was going to be a sleeper hit but it just doesn’t come together as well as I wanted. If some of the awkward dialogue had been cleaned up this probably would have played out a lot better.

It struggles to be a coming of age AND a horror movie and the two styles are never blended, it just abruptly switches between the two and achieves nothing.

Bad character development, and they gave me representation so BADLY ESTABLISHED that I can't even get stoked.

BUT they watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Roberto listens to Tegan and Sara so, net win.

So if they ever wanna make an Illyana movie...

**i live in an area with no cases, theatre at 15% capacity, distanced, and I wore a mask. This is not the situation most people have so stay safe these movies are not worth risking your well being**
