Rumble Fish ★★★½

can’t tell if young Mickey Rourke looks like old Bruce Willis X young Timothy Bottoms or young Bruce Willis X old Timothy Bottoms, but either way, him not looking like human coffee grinds and delivering a pretty solid performance to boot (subtracting some of the affected cool) was a nice surprise, all the more so when compared to how bad Matt Dillon is in this. not really interested in this narrative whatsoever, but it’s great to see Coppola flexing his compositional chops here—lovely & pointed flow of images throughout, wasn’t expecting this to be so airy. also, there’s an interesting interplay between this and Youth Without Youth, this all about moving shadows, clocks, the potential of a life cut too short, and that all about inverted signs, clocks, the regrets of a life made too long.
