American Friendo’s review published on Letterboxd:
I was not expecting this film to be less than two hours. I would like to applaud Christopher Nolan for his brevity.
It would be weird for someone to watch this film and not tear up. However, it does a good job of not leaning too hard into the schmaltz. The rousing moments are brief with the exception of some of the Kenneth Branagh scenes which seem to want their sentimentality.
Nolan pulls off his structural daring-do once more. It has the great effect of giving the scope of the battle and rescue operation without any fluff.
It seems like one of the goals of this film was to get Tom Hardy laid.
