    Week 3 of the 2021 Cult Movie Challenge - 50s Sci-Fi Week.

These movies with a small town fighting off some strange menace with the weird old guys who live with their dogs and the bunch of horny youths and the straight-laced family and the skeptical police force make me feel so cozy and nostalgic for a time I was not born.

The most atmospheric movies make me feel like I’m in a different place when I watch them. I love the idea that a few sounds and pictures on a screen can transport me out of my seat and into wherever they want to take me. The first 15 minutes or so of this movie is a perfect example of that. Now I can close my eyes and feel like I’m back in the lush but foreboding gothic European village I watched for just 80 minutes. It does not get better than that in my opinion.

Movie #7 of my Hooptober 9

I tend to be a little love-it-or-hate-it with most sci-fi, and this definitely fell more on the love it side. It looks gorgeous, and it made me think about how powerful ants can be if/when they get their shit together.

I don't really have a review for this one. It looked and sounded very cool.

Movie #5 of my Hooptober 9

Gotta love a good mystery/thriller type movie. I love it when the characters look blankly into middle distance and the echoes of past voices pop up on the soundtrack and you know some bombshell twist is about to drop and change the whole movie.

Movie #29 of my Hooptober 8.0

I don't know if any movie has ever captured the feeling of actually being out on Halloween night better than this one.
