“You represent love, freedom, everything they detest”
I loved everything about this film. I have to admit, Lola’s highly sexual and expressive nature are one of my favourite aspects of the film. Not to mention that this is probably one of the most visually ravishing 50’s and French films I’ve ever seen. I loved the sequences at the circus and how they contributed to telling Lola’s life story. It felt natural, and honestly I’d love to see this type of storytelling in more classic films. Reminds me of the Rashomon effect in way, but without the mystery of course. I love Max Ophüls so much, I want more of his films in my life.
