The Godfather

The Godfather ★★★★½

AMC: The Godfather 50 Year Anniversary (Dolby Cinemas)

Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

Lucky enough to see this classic for the first time on the big screen. So much to unpack, but from a technical standpoint I’ll say for now, beautiful shots/lighting (it’s opening, my goodness), performances from Brando, Pacino, and Caan, set design, and lighting was a delight after learning more about that today, and it’s great execution of back-lit Micheal in action at the hospital. Characters being revealed half-lit really helped identifying so quickly.

“I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse. Okay? I want you to leave it all to me. Go on, go back to the party.”

The action sequences paid off so well, but all of those cuts back to Italy felt like such a relief. The loud train was a great touch to the score of the movie, which has other great moments at the beginning at the house.
