Only God Forgives

Only God Forgives ★★★★½

Maybe it is because this movie is most abstract and avant-garde than Drive, but I honestly cannot see how it is held in so much less regard. Only God Forgives explores the origins of evil in the modern world; how the colonization and/or fetishization of another nation can cause the necessity for them to create another form of evil; how evil is passed down from parent to child, from elder to younger, from the more powerful to the less. Along with these profound messages, the film gives scenes that have such striking imagery that, while there are of course some faults, the movie comes out leaving an impact on one's way of thinking about how and why we see such extreme acts of violence in our world.
