2019 is the year of rewatching movies before I rate them, apparently. Synecdoche, Mishima, In The Mood For Love (still have to rewatch that one), and now this. This one was less about getting a deeper understanding of the film, and more just because I fucking loved it.
Every once in a while, a film will come along that splits audiences. As a multi-billion dollar entertainment industry, Hollywood and its studios tend to repeat processes that show profitable results. As a result, we sort of have "eras" of films that look more and more like each other.
But sometimes, an auteur will come along. They’ll present an artistic vision, something they felt so strongly about that they had to immortalize it onto celluloid, regardless of the current paradigm…
