    Umpteenth rewatch, but I had never noticed the themes of the surveillance state before. This is a movie where the plot is moved along almost entirely through cell phones, which had finally completed their takeover by this point in 2006. Scorsese knew how radically cell phones had changed things- notice how when someone picks up their phone it always stops the music that’s playing.

    Braven the elements, Braven the bad guys, Braven the bear traps...all for his family! It’s pretty fun. Basically all the studio action movies from the 90’s that were starring vehicles for Seagal and Van Damme are now being made as 90 minute low budget thrillers, that are direct to VOD.
