Angela Watts’s review published on Letterboxd :
I wasn't expecting much from this movie. I've loved Venom since I saw him in the Spiderman cartoon when I was like, 12.
But this movie was cool.
-- Tom Hardy didn't do a bad job! I didn't think he could pull it off but HE DID.
-- It was so visually appealing. Everything was sooo cool. And some scenes just blew me away. I JUST LIKED IT.
-- THE MUSIC. NNIICEE. It set the mood and made everything come to life.
-- VENOM WAS NEATO. HE DID NOT DISAPPOINT. HE WAS ACTUALLY BETTER THAN I EXPECTED.
-- It was funny. I didn't see that coming. But some moments made me laugh even if they weren't supposed to be humorous.
-- The scientist dude was a good antagonism! He didn't fall flat.
-- The reasons behind it all were intriguing. The government experiments, aliens, etc. Entertaining and thought provoking though not surprising or blown out of the water.
-- It wasn't gory! They had chances to make it really nasty and they didn't.
Not So Cool Stuff
-- From a 'E.T. phones home' perspective, the Venom and Eddie relationship wasn't bad at all. From a 'antihero' ideal, it might've been unliked. I personally really liked it though.
-- Some details (like the girl scientist) weren't clearly wrapped up but it didn't weaken the story.
-- Not sure what the build up was for in the end credit but, hey.
