A somewhat decent 2019 update on the corrupt cop genre from the late 90s and early 2000s. It's nowhere near as masterful as Copland or Training Day, but the movie manages to keep afloat through most of it. I will say this is easily the best thing Deon Taylor has directed so far, but that's not saying much. The movie really tries to be a deep political movie about race and police brutality, but it ends up being a decent by-the-numbers action film that you'd see on cable on a Saturday afternoon. Naomie Harris and Tyrese Gibson were the ones who was actually trying... but they were in a completely different movie than Frank Grillo and Mike Coulter who was treating this as a entertaining b level crime flick. Overall, the movie levels itself and what it ends up being is a pretty entertaining movie that could have been deeper than it actually was.
