You can call this movie absurd, convoluted, outrageous, and impossible. But one thing you can’t call it is boring. This movie is so much fucking fun and I’m ride or die for my boy Arkin ❤️ Give us The Collected I’m begging you!!

Oof the xenophobia is strong with this one. Not surprising for a movie from 2006, but still hard to watch. Also the misogynistic British guy really got on my nerves (the first time we see him on screen he’s ogling a woman’s chest and it just gets cringier from there). Josh Duhamel, Melissa George, and Olivia Wilde do a good job but their collective talent and beauty can only go so far when the script is not so great. I am a sucker for some tense underwear scenes though, I will say that! I watched the unrated cut and overall it was just pretty average imo.

The more I sit with this film and think about it the more I like it. Those who are saying “it’s just The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with porn” are being incredibly reductive, in my opinion. You can tell that it’s truly a love letter to slashers and to the art of filmmaking in general. All the actors seem like they’re having a blast, the cinematography, sound design, and soundtrack are stellar, and the use of practical effects is just *chefs kiss* Plus it really makes you consider how society has trained us to fear aging and elderly people’s bodies. Really looking forward to rewatching this one!

Very glad that I saw this in a nice theater because I feel like a lot would get lost on a smaller screen and inferior sound system (and especially on my tv at home). Though I feel like there were definitely some plot holes and inconsistencies in the film’s internal logic, I really commend Peele for breathing new life into a fairly stagnant sub genre. Nope unsettled me in ways I haven’t felt from a movie in a long time,…
