Coherence, to me, is the perfect example of how what horror as a genre really is and can be and what it really means for a movie to be scary are so misconstrued nowadays. I can’t remember the last time I was genuinely frightened or disturbed in any deep way by a jump-scare/gore/paranormal filled “horror” movie that has come out in theatres. Meanwhile I was just absolutely paralysed with fear for an hour and a half to the point that I still don’t know if I’m ready to sit up or move over a micro-budget drama about quantum physics that’s essentially just one big equation. It frightened me to my absolute core. To me it is the personification of everything I consider truly horrifying.
