This was actually better than Murnau's film. And Murnau was a brilliant film maker. I suppose the credit goes to actor Klaus Kinski, although the direction was amazing too. Its surreal scenes, especially in the square after the plague hit, as well as the insanely daring intro with mummified corpses, make this a masterpiece.
