Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai

    ★★★★½

“This ain’t no ancient culture here, mister.”

    “...sometimes it is.”

Moody cinematography, and excellent soundtrack. Perfect genre blending, with just enough imitation and homage. Ghost Dog is easily a new favorite.

  • To Catch a Thief

    To Catch a Thief

    ★★★★

To Catch a Thief was simultaneously soo Hitchcockian, yet lacked typical Hickcockian tension. Filled with double entendres, hitch humor, and reoccurring themes that we see again and again throughout his work (Birds in the cage, the biplane, the potential fall in the climax), this comedy pulls through with just enough suspense in the end. You can’t forget about the cinematography either, which was beautiful. Films like this make me wonder what Hitch could do with a steadicam.

Bonus points for all the cool shots of the cat trotting on the roof.

    The Trouble with Harry

    ★★★½

I’m bouncing all over the place knocking out some more Hitch, but I followed up Mr and Mrs. Smith with The Trouble With Harry. The pair of comedies felt more appropriate together, as a couple outliers of his filmography. Nonetheless the pair made for an entertaining night and a nice break from the thriller with some great sequences in each film.

    Stage Fright

    ★★½

Some nice and fluid camera movements which were great. Marlene Dietrich was the highlight, but her performance just didn’t mesh with Jane Wyman to me. Some other performances were especially stiff. You can’t get a much better title than that though! Worth the watch.
