A’s review published on Letterboxd:
Sublime performances from Brie Larson and young talent Jacob Tremblay and deftly directed and shot by Lenny Abrahamson (whose previous film Frank happened to appear in my top 15 list for 2014) create an emotionally charged family drama/thriller that packs an obscure punch.
Intricate details chronicle a sheltered life of our young family and show amazing perseverance in the face of perversion and evil. Room is a intimate and gentle film, relying on clever writing and dialogue to provide the thrills and as we start to piece together, bit by bit, what the lives of these people have been. We can still only ever scrape the surface of their suffering. But when a story is told in such a touching manner - it’s both heart breaking and bittersweet.
