    Belladonna of Sadness

A visual masterpiece with a train wreck of a plot. I was initially going to give it two stars until I really evaluated everything and tapped into a deeper appreciation for the visuals. Belladonna of sadness is so beautiful to look at, but I often found myself glancing at my phone or leaving the room. I was understanding the folktale aspect up until the last 50 minutes. Truly truly a beautiful fever dream, I think I’ll give it a rewatch sometime later this year.

Huge David Lynch fan here so I totally get the whole “it’s not supposed to make sense” thing but Jesus Christ. It felt like it didn’t make sense due to lack of story structure. Visually STUNNING. Incredible performances. So goddamn slow I wanted to pluck my eyes out and then rip my hair out and then skin myself alive. I hated that so much. But also was saying “I love this movie” the entire time so I really don’t know what to think.
