"what's your favourite scary movie?"
holy shit I love the opening so much, has to be one of the best ever because of it's spooky and satirical tone which prepares us for what's to come.
wes craven is constantly making fun of the slasher/horror movies here. Scream is basically critiquing slashers by using their usual tropes but whilst also making the audience known about what they're watching through it's brilliant meta commentary. also, it works as a great slasher even though it's basically a parody of the sub-genre because of it being actually violent and gory but the film as a whole is still so clever and witty because of how self referential it is. really incredible stuff, quintessential campy horror film from the 90s and a really intelligent satire.
