Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Hunt for the Wilderpeople ★★★★½

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is impossible not to like. One of Taika Waititi's lesser known films and just like his more recent hits it does not disappoint. This movie is what I feel like spending a day in Taika's brain must feels like. It's extremely genuine, it's heartfelt, it's hilarious and the whole movie just makes you want to visit New Zealand and live in the bush.

The ironic pairing of Ricky Baker and Hec along with a dog named Tupac provide the perfect team for and adventure in the New Zealand wilderness. Sam Neill does a good job but Julian Dennison is what makes this movie tick. He's both hilarious and perfectly cast as he absolutely crushes this movie. The rest of the cast does a great job in this movie but one call out is Rachel House (who plays a child welfare worker and also has a part in Thor: Ragnorok) who provided some of the funniest parts of the movie.

The only thing I wish this movie did was come into my life sooner as it's exactly what I needed. A must watch.
