9to5: The Story of a Movement

Great short documentary on the women’s labor movement in the US with its challenges and successes. I’m always looking at labor issues from a Marxist perspective and I really liked how the organizers evolved their politics to demand better conditions from employers. The women’s liberation movement is tied to class struggle and I was really forced to think about how difficult it was to organize when dealing with major racism among white working women against their black comrades. And doubly…

  • Pieces of a Woman

    Pieces of a Woman

This movie gets an amazing first long scene, shot continuously, of going through labor. It’s amazingly well acted and incredibly intimate. If you’ve ever witnessed it yourself it’s very accurate on what a woman might experience. For movies sake the timetable is sped up considerably so that dilation, and pushing happen in minutes rather than hours. I won’t lie, the ending of that scene where you think the baby is going to be ok but doesn’t get enough air and…

  • Sorry to Bother You

    Sorry to Bother You

I’ll be honest with you, this wasn’t my cup of tea. I was drawn to the pro labor and anti capitalist themes of the movie but it kind of drags and gets very strange at the end. It’s a decent satire and it’s trying all sorts of different things but it wasn’t for me. When Cassius is at the loony house of the worry free ceo it took me by surprise and frankly wasn’t super great. Maybe I’m missing something but I wasn’t so into it. Anyway it’s a rental for me with some decent moments of comedy like the white voice

  • Blue Bayou

    Blue Bayou

This is my first movie I’ve seen since my baby was born. It was very emotional and I teared up multiple times throughout. This was more resonant with me because my wife is not a US citizen and it’s a fucking pain in the ass with immigration and residency. Let me preface by saying fuck the US government and its cruel policies of tearing families apart. I mean if you think this country is “free” or “welcoming” this will help…

  • Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'

    Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'

    Just call me Golden Frieza

I really enjoyed this one. I loved all the fight scenes with characters we don’t get to see a lot of like Roshi doing work, Krillin back in gear, and Tien doing his cool Tri Beam Cannon. It was well done and a great nod to the fans. I do wish that Toriyama actually made the other characters relevant and not always trailing Goku but this movie did them some justice. Also total disrespect to…

  • Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods

I thought this a good return for the franchise after DBZ. It’s pretty light hearted in all and has a lot of fun moments. The animation looks great but I gotta say those newer anime colors just don’t pop like the ones from the 90s. Majin Buu arc is peak animation style and color. Nothing tops it. The film went on a little too long given that it takes like 90 minutes before the fight begins. It could have skipped…

  • South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID

South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID

This one made me laugh a ton seriously. Building upon the last ones story we get the culmination of the pandemic saga. The gags are still here and there’s some zingers that got me good lol.

I laughed so hard at the upset Alexa and how Stan has to calm her down by asking her if she has any deals available. When Kyle gets his and freaks on him he does the same. Kyle says something that could set her…

  • Licorice Pizza

    Licorice Pizza

A sweet and endearing film of young love and times long gone. I feel we can all relate to what it’s like to have a messy romance and teenage love. It’s just like a story about regular people. Alana Haim is great in this. She’s like the quirky girl who’s not your traditional beauty but is so attractive nonetheless. When they’re sitting on the waterbed and Gary is trying to hold her hand. God it just hit me right in the memory feels of how I felt trying to do the same thing with girls I was interested in.

  • South Park: Post COVID

    South Park: Post COVID

The satire is really on the nose for this one lmao. Let’s break it down:

-literally like a copy of Blade Runner with the gaisha eating on a massive skyscraper for old folks

-Cartman being a Jewish rabbi. So fucking funny, he’s 150% fucking with Kyle in the long con

-Kenny can’t get a word in during his interview

-the corporate dystopia with everything being merged and plus lol

-Clyde being the one guy who won’t get vaccinated after 40…

  • Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon

Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon

Great finish to the DBZ movie saga. Love my Zelda DBZ crossover here folks. I honestly adore Tapion’s ocarina song and it’s one of the best parts of this film. It’s got such a melancholy behind it. Also more importantly, we learn the origin of Trunks’ sword. It’s not the most canon lol as this isn’t future Trunks but his present self. Timelines be damned here!! Nonetheless I now accept as canon that future Trunks is actually the Hero of…

  • Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn

    Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn

This one is like I smoked some strong cush and ranted to my friends about bizarre shit. I mean we’ve got Hitler in this one for christs sake. The action is fun, absurd and just non stop silliness. We get Gogeta at the end but they waited way to long to get it in because he has one move that kills Janemba and it’s over. Janemba has some really cool teleport moves and how he disappears like disassembling blocks. They…

Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!

Watched this after finishing DBZ Kai and before I watch the last two DBZ movies. This one doesn’t really do it for me. The characters look well animated and it looks pretty smooth all things considered. The story is pretty dumb not gonna lie. It almost acts like the episode right after Majin Buu is defeated but has a lot less charm. On a side note I absolutely cannot get into watching Dragon Ball in Japanese. For me the English…
