Imagine your average creepypasta or a low-tier r/NoSleep story got turned into a found footage movie, and you basically have this. I’m pretty sure this is only scary to edgy middle school boys.

Definitely one of the weaker Harlow movies I’ve seen, and the doubling in the last half is really obvious, but this is one I’ve been meaning to get through as her (sadly unexpected) swan song. Harlow is so lovely in this that it’s hard to reconcile her vibrancy on-screen with her failing and eventually, failed, health off. I can only imagine what a gut punch this was for audiences in 1937.

I was talking about the Howard Ashman documentary with my sister and remembered how I cried when it ended with him singing Part of Your World (which is a song that brings me to tears under the best of circumstances.) So I decided to revisit this.

Amazing soundtrack. I can’t believe it took me this long to realize Poor Unfortunate Souls is perfect? Ursula is a fantastic villain. Queer readings are off the charts. There’s probably something deeper to the fact I obsessed over this movie as a little girl but I’m just going to say I love the work and effort put into this movie.

Ozu moves the camera a few times in this and it was more startling than any jump scare I've ever seen.
