The elaborate fantasy world is so brilliantly crafted from both a writing and visual perspective. The set designs were all so rich and interesting, they added so much to the mysterious world.

The contrast between the fantasy world and the very serious and intense real world situation of war was an interesting dynamic. Ivana Baquero gives an amazing performance that captures the innocence and good nature of Ofelia perfectly.

My only issue really is that I wish we saw more of the fantasy world, because what we did see was so interesting, I just wish there was a bit more.

I also love the ambiguity of the fantasy world, by the end of the film you’re not sure which parts of the fantasy world (if any) were real - and depending on whether you think it was real or not, it gives a very different perspective to the ending. I feel like mentioning the ambiguity is kinda spoilery, so I guess I’ll put a spoiler tag on this one.
