100 Horror Films in 92 Days

Gabriel really decided to defund the Seattle police singlehandedly.

James Wan takes one part The Ring, two parts Basket Case, and three parts The Dark Half and throws all of that into a blender and gives us one of the most bonkers mainstream horror film in recent memory (outside of Ari Aster I suppose).

I might have actually audibly gasped at the reveal (on a VHS tape no less). That visual will stick with me for a hot minute.

The whole film is pretty silly in the best way possible. It’s okay to have fun at the movies. Not everything has to be deep or have political undertones or social commentary. I mean, I love those movies too, but sometimes an old fashioned fright fest is just what the doctor ordered. As I’m writing this, I just thought of another movie this one reminds me of—Brian DePalma’s Raising Cain, one of the more underrated films of the 90s.

I wish I could have seen this in a theater, but I’m so glad it is available on HBO Max now so I can be apart of the discourse.
