Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame ★★★★★

With Avengers: Endgame, the Russo brothers have concocted an achievement of a film that serves as both a worthy follow-up to the devastating cliffhanger audiences got with Infinity War and a wholly satisfying conclusion to the long-running Infinity Saga. I was absolutely blown away by how well Anthony and Joe Russo pulled everything off with this movie, from giving fitting conclusions to the arcs of the original six Avengers to making every minute of the three-hour runtime worth every penny. If Infinity War was Thanos’ movie, Endgame is certainly the Avengers’. Right off the bat, the film starts with paying attention to the characters and how they are coping with the effects of the snap and the losses they suffered at the hands of the Mad Titan. That gives the stars, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner, the chance to get some real acting chops in as they project the raw emotion they feel from suffering a loss as great as the one they face here. Once a lot of the movie has passed, the last hour of the movie is absolutely insane and pure movie magic. The visuals are as impressive as you’d come to expect from this movie and you can see the time they took and the care that went into making it look utterly amazing. There were so many unforgettable moments in this movie that are made even better by looking back on how well the editors hid everything in the trailers. Thinking about the film as a whole, I can say with certainty that this was one of my favorites of 2019.
