Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Terminator 2: Judgment Day ★★★★★

Terminator list coming🔜

This is easily one of the best movies of the 90’s and one of the greatest action blockbusters of all-time. Cameron took what worked so well in the first and amplified in incredible ways. It veers away from being mostly Horror and becomes a true Action movie. The set-pieces, stunt-work, and effects are some of the best of that decade. It’s also a compelling followup to the first, as the story goes in an unexpectedly interesting direction. The emotion is present, the stakes are massive and the themes are relevant to everyone. It also honors the previous installment, something the other sequels don’t do well with. Arnold is awesome here. He takes the material and manages to turn each line into an iconic moment. He is so quotable and his character goes from horrifying in the first, to wonderful in the second. Granted, it’s a different character but it’s the same old Arnold.

He may not be as buff as he was in the first, bit his acting has gotten significantly better. His tender moments with Furlong work so well, and elevate this to something new entirely. The action is grand but the emotion is what allows this film to flourish. The transformation of Linda Hamilton from the first, to the second, is something else entirely. She goes from unsure to focused on her mission. She turns into an action hero for the ages. The action is mostly centered around our Terminator battle, but she is incredible in it. Let’s not forget Robert Patrick as one of the coolest villains of all-time. He barely speaks, but the film is all the better for it because of how imposing he is. They manage to take this (slightly tiny) guy and make him an unstoppable killing machine, and we believe every second of it. It’s well-directed, full of gorgeous color correction (the blue tinted scenes), and full of energy. It is, definitively, one of the greatest Sci-Fi/Action films ever.
