Austin LaCroix’s review published on Letterboxd:
About as deep as a puddle, Raya and the Last Dragon exists as an astonishing crockpot full of disparate ideas and concepts that clearly needed a stronger directional dynamic to whittle down this tale into something more emotionally centered and far less scattered. Beneath the obviously lovely animation and game voice cast is a script so consistently dull and uninspired that I found myself frustrated that I wasn’t being afforded authentic moments of emotion to enjoy. The film is hyperactive in its need to move each scene along at such a breakneck pace that no individual moment is given the weight and space to breathe that is needed. Ugh. I need to watch soul again so I can laugh and cry with characters I’m properly given the chance to care about.
