    Brokeback Mountain

With it being pride month, I figured that now would be a good time to officially announce myself as a member of the LGBT+ community. I have told a few people about this relatively recently, but I’ve never actually announced it publicly, so I figured there’s no better time than right now. I fall somewhere between bisexual and pansexual. I’m still unsure of the specific label I identify with, but it’s important to just get it out there about this…

    Mysterious Skin

Hey everyone, this is likely the most personal review I’ll ever write, and one of the toughest reviews I’ve ever written and shared with people. I’m going to share something that I’ve never shared with anyone, how I am inextricably linked to this film.

When I was a child, I was sexually abused. I don’t have a lot of recollection of the event since I was only 5 or 6, but it very much so happened and this film has…

    Your Name.

This film genuinely had me feeling emotions that I didn’t even know I was capable of feeling. A truly spectacular film with an awesome soundtrack, everything about this is fantastic, but I honestly really wasn’t a fan of the sheer amount of montages there were in the first 30 minutes or so. Once that was over and the film actually started, then I was captivated. I remember sitting for a bit after this ended thinking “how am I supposed to…

  • Pitfall

My third Teshigahara film now, and he has probably made his way to my favorite directors at this point. Pitfall is really interesting, it is an art film that is actually very easy to digest. It lays its themes out really explicitly and doesn’t make any confusing directorial decisions that are often found in arthouse cinema. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE that a lot when films do that, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen an arthouse film…

    Gran Torino

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Yes, you saw that right. I absolutely could not stand this film. I have never in my entire life had such a visceral hatred for a film. I genuinely think this might be the worst film I have EVER seen. I am just racking my brain trying to think of one, just ONE, redeemable quality of Gran Torino, but I seriously cannot find a single thing that I liked about this, and I am just seething after watching this.

  • Lolita

Lolita is so frustrating because it has a lot of potential to be a really good film as it's an adaptation of an important work. There can be interesting ideas about Oedipal(ish) desire, pedophilia, and even toxic parents controlling your life. I'm so frustrated because there were many opportunities for this to be good, but it just wasn't. It lacks nuance, it lacks well developed characters and motivations, and it lacks a thread of anything that could keep my interest.…
