Austin Lord’s review published on Letterboxd:
Waves is something I wasn't expecting to like, and I don't even remember why I didn't think I'd like it, but I'm glad that I was wrong. This film feels anxious, it feels fresh, and it feels real and humanistic. It's essentially 2 films put into one, and while that change up is rather jarring, it all makes a lot of sense to me. Both stories are very tonally different, but it's an ambitious piece of filmmaking and I admire it for that. It could be a little much at certain points with random musical cues for seconds at a time, as well as extremely energetic filmmaking that sometimes feels like it's for nothing. All things considered, I'm very satisfied with this film.
