Astonishing Charles Melton performance but can probably never bring myself to watch it again.

    Killers of the Flower Moon

Second time but still so overwhelming in its anger and grace and dignity

Fennell has never had an original thought in her life! Queen of the set up, but can never stick the landing because that would require having a point of view. Incoherent class politics but looked lovely, if totally derivative (stag antlers and angel wings, really?)

    1. If I hadn’t watched Return to Seoul recently I think I might have liked this more, but RtS really does feel like the apex of this particular genre — it’s infinitely more complex and sophisticated.
    2. Just something a little shallow about it. Can’t help thinking that’s why white audiences have embraced it so much? Somewhat uncomplicated narrative of an extremely difficult and ugly topic. I wish it would let itself dwell in the ugliness, the spikiness. Let me into Nora’s head!
    3. Representation matters when it’s an Asian playwright walking into her tiny apartment to find her white boyfriend playing PS5.
