Lush, enchanting style of De Palma’s best, but the narrative felt a bit flat for me. The tension seemed too mechanical/contrived to really sweep me up, but otherwise still a pleasure and a worthwhile watch.
HoopTober 5 - Film 3/31
What a marvel. For some reason I expected this one to be tedious, and thus put it off for some time, but boy was that not at all the case. The cinematography was a highlight here, the black and white almost rich with non-color, reminding me not infrequently of the work of Sven Nykvist and his work on Persona, specifically. Also, the character dynamics were complex in the small setting and really energized the plot. Happy to finally have a Romero under my belt, and to have the opportunity to finally visit some of these horror fundamentals this HoopTober.
