Andrew Wyatt’s review published on Letterboxd :
Gary Ross is no Steven Soderbergh and it shows. The direction here is so bloodless compared to SS’s ‘Ocean’s’ films, and the result is shockingly, disappointingly... straightforward? Linear? Just kind of an A to B to C plot, which is not what a fizzy heist film should be.
However, damn if still isn’t a *lot* of fun, thanks almost entirely to the winning cast and an irrestitable premise. A lot of ear-to-ear grins, in other words. It mainly makes me eager to see an ‘Ocean’s Nine’ directed by a auteurist woman director with the right sense of cool. Maybe Amy Seimitz, Sofia Coppola, or Karyn Kusama? Would they ever deign to make something so light and fluffy? I would hope so.
