Per Axel Hagne’s review published on Letterboxd:
Not only does the favourite feature one of the greatest achievements in cinematography from last year but i also some of the finest performances from its three main leading roles.
It feels great to watch a film with such strong female roles, i couldn’t even tell if the film had a main lead because they all shined so well in their roles.
It’s hard to not notice all the fans of Yorgos Lanthimos reaction differently, personally i feel that The Favourite is not as much Lanthimos as his other films, due to the fact that he has not written it.
I’m not the biggest fan of his way of telling stories, i think The Favourite will be my Favourite for a long time to come.
Unless he decides to collaborate again with other writers.
